Merritt RCMP seize sawed-off rifle following reported assault
MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP seized two rifles and a crossbow during an execution of a search warrant Sunday (March 27) evening.
Officers attended the 2700-block of Clapperton Avenue after a 911 call was received alleging a man had been assaulted inside a residence, and the suspect was in possession of a sawed-off rifle. RCMP say they surrounded the residence, eventually cleared it, and took six people into custody.
“Firearms calls like this are very dangerous to the public and police” Sgt. Josh Roda says. “We want to assure the public we are doing everything we can to get illegal guns off our streets and hold the offenders accountable.”
RCMP are still investigating the incident, and it will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service once complete.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
