Dozens of paid positions still available in Kamloops area on voting day: Elections Canada

KAMLOOPS — It’s still nearly two weeks until voting day, but preparation is well underway in Elections Canada returning offices in Kamloops and Salmon Arm.
Kamloops-Thompson-Nicola Returning Officer Geoff Collier says Elections Canada will become one of the region’s top employers on April 28, with about 800 people working to coordinate and tally the vote in his riding alone.
There are still about 100 paid positions that need to be filled in Kamloops-Thompson-Nicola, both in Kamloops and in surrounding communities.
“We’re looking for folks to work as voting officers. They’re the people who take your votes at polls,” Collier told CFJC Today. “We still need a few of those and we also need a large number of spares because people, unfortunately, do drop off for various reasons. We still need about 40 spares.”
People will also be needed to tally ballots cast in advance polls, which also happens on general voting day. Advance polls open on Friday (April 18).
Those interested in helping out on April 28 are asked to reach out as soon as possible.
“They would get trained before [voting day],” said Collier. “We’re running six classes per day of training from (April) 22 through the 26 to get the last large group of people trained — both those we have already hired and the ones we’re going to hire.”
Anyone interested in an Elections Canada job is urged to reach out by phone or online — or to visit an Elections Canada office in person.
