Slide danger rating high, travel discouraged: Avalanche Canada

KAMLOOPS — Travel is not being recommended through avalanche terrain Wednesday (Feb. 28).
According to Avalanche Canada’s forecast, avalanche danger is high in backcountry areas north of Clearwater and east of Sicamous.
“Numerous natural and rider triggered storm slab and persistent slab avalanches size one to three have been reported the past few days in the alpine and treeline elevation bands,” Avalanche Canada states. “One rider triggered persistent slab avalanches resulted in a full burial/recovery east of Revelstoke. Some of these avalanches were remotely triggered (from a distance). Expect persistent slab avalanche activity to continue.”

DriveBC closed the Trans Canada Highway between Golden and Revelstoke from 10:00 a.m. to noon Wednesday (Feb. 28).
Another avalanche forecast will be issued at around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
