TNRD working to build accessibility plan, asking for public input

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is launching an accessibility survey to hear from residents as they work to construct a new accessibility plan for the district.
“The TNRD is taking steps towards developing an Accessibility Plan, which will identify barriers to accessibility and inclusion that may be experienced by members of the public or TNRD staff. Barriers may be present in the built environment, information and communications, or the delivery of programs or services,” reads the press release.
Further, to provide guidance on accessibility needs and feedback for drafting the Accessibility Plan, the TNRD has now established an Accessibility Advisory Committee.
“This committee is a great way to get feedback from a dedicated group of people who can share their lived experiences of navigating a world that isn’t always easy to access for them,” said director Blackwell, chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. “We look forward to a strong response to the survey from the general public so we can move this great committee forward in the most informed way possible. Very exciting by the energy in the room after our first meeting.”
The survey is open from June 26 to September 1, 2023, and gives respondents the opportunity to provide feedback on physical properties and online platforms that belong to the TNRD and comment on their own experiences relating to accessibility.
