PHOTOS: Cache Creek flooding worsens to ‘disaster’
CACHE CREEK, B.C. — The flooding situation in Cache Creek has worsened since Tuesday (May 2), as flood waters are now running through a motel parking lot and directly through the local fire department hall.
Mayor John Ranta says it’s no longer an emergency situation — it’s a disaster.
Work is underway on Highway 97 where crews are looking to shore up the sides of the bank to prevent further erosion.
BC Hydro reports 30 customers in Cache Creek have been without power since 10:20 a.m. Wednesday due to flooding at the Highway 1 and 97 junctions.
Elsewhere, School District 74 Superintendent Teresa Downs said in a social media post that Cache Creek Elementary School is closed Wednesday due to the flooding in the community.
Due to the highway closure and safety concerns with the flooding. Cache Creek Elementary School is closed today. In addition, all buses that travel through Cache Creek will not be running today. Our thoughts are with the Cache Creek community.
